Section 3(m) of the Immigration Restriction Act 1901 allowed legally domiciled Asians to bring their wives to Australia but the section was subject to repeal by proclamation. Indian officials examining the case of Mrs Fatteh Mohamed Dean were uncertain whether the section still applied.
